Treasuries had been trading flat-to-slightly stronger overnight, with 10yr yields again pushing the 2.30% technical boundary. Then newswires from Dow Jones started coming out regarding ECB Draghi's appearance at the Jackson Hole conference in August. Markets took these in stride until coming across the following:
- DJ ECB COULD ANNOUNCE PLANS TO WIND DOWN QE AT ITS SEPT. 7 POLICY MEETING--ECB OFFICIALS
Whereas the previous Draghi headlines were speculative and meaningless, this newswire at 7:12am (ET) cited "ECB Officials." German Bunds and Treasury yields both began moving higher from there. The 8:20am CME open brought slightly more selling pressure just now, pushing 10yr yields up to 2.3355. Fannie 3.5 MBS opened unchanged and are now down to 102-19 (-2/32nds).
Producer Price data is coming up presently.
